Letter of Welcome from the Secretary of the North American Branch

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the the world of Angela Thirkell! The Angela Thirkell Circle, formerly sponsored by Moyer Bell, does not exist anymore. However, the Angela Thirkell Society of North America has been formed to further the educational and literary interest in Angela Thirkell. Your $15. donation brings you access to the ATS Journal, published annually in the U.K., and the ATS Bulletin, published three times a year by the North American Branch, as well as access to books and articles, and information about North American and U.K. meetings. A special welcome to the members of the Thirkell Circle who were referred to us by Moyer Bell. Of course, if you are a reader of Angela Thirkell who found us through the Internet, you are also welcome. Our goals are to increase awareness of the works of Angela Thirkell and of the Angela Thirkell Society, and to encourage Angela Thirkell readers to investigate our organization. We use your contributions and fees to further knowledge of Angela Thirkell through our book donation programs, to print our regular publications, and to provide reprints of Angela Thirkell work and related work which is considered too special interest for commercial publication. You will feel that you are visiting Barsetshire at one of these events.
As Secretary, I have some additional goals for the Society:

To encourage the continued publication of Angela Thirkell works
To Encourage people to have fun

To Encourage us to communicate with other readers with similar interests.

Reading a good author is a way to build bonds between people, to share experience and to help the human community to understand one another. Electronics increases our ability to reach each other rapidly, and books enrich that experience by layering our perceptions with other thoughts, other ideas, other times and other people. Let's enjoy the insights, humor and warmth of experience that Angela Thirkell brought to the world.
The Mission of the Angela Thirkell Society:

To honor the memory of Angela Thirkell as a writer; and to make her works available to new generations.

To publish an annual Journal in which readers can share items of interest.

To encourage studies of Angela Thirkell's writing and to suggest lecturers on her books to literary societies.

To give those who enjoy her novels opportunities to meet and to correspond, and also to obtain copies of her novels.
